Ivan told the BBC that "Prince Philip's legacy was colossal." He added: " I will always be grateful to Prince Philip for what he did for young people with disabilities. He was a compassionate leader who was inclusive - he encouraged young people with disabilities to participate in his Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme not only in the United Kingdom but also across the Commonwealth. He also encouraged young people with disabilities to participate in sports."

Recounting Prince Philip's wartime experiences, Ivan told the BBC that the Duke of Edinburgh was a war hero. He shared the news of Prince Philip's experiences in Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka. Ivan shared with both BBC prime time TV news on BBC One and BBC Radio how Prince Philip bought a 1935 model Standard 9 car for 12 pound and drove all over the island, visiting many of the sacred sites. In 1981 he also drove to Anuradhapura and other sacred places during the Royal Visit.

Ivan mentioned the fact that Prince Philip's car has been restored to pristine condition and is now on display at the Galle Face Hotel Museum In Colombo.

Prince Philip has visited Sri Lanka on two State Visits with Queen Elizabeth - in 1954 and in 1981. He undertook a solo tour in 1956 and visited Ceylon. Prince Philip was very much a friend of Sri Lanka.

"He will be missed by the Commonwealth, including the land of my birth, Sri Lanka," said Ivan.
