Obituary: Daniel Wickremeratne - 11/04/2020 |

Daniel Wickremaratne, the son of Ouida Corea Wickremaratne (daughter of Vernon Corea Snr.) and Praveen Wickremaratne passed away in the United Kingdom.
He was loved by his family, who will miss him, but take comfort in the belief that he has gone to be with Jesus.
Here is a moving tribute to young Daniel, written by one of his carers, Sarah Jane:
Today I want to tell you about a boy named Daniel. I first met him 14 years ago, he was 3 years old at the time. I was studying at university; learning, living and growing - and then God placed me within the arms of a certain family. Sometimes you may think that you are there to help people but through Gods grace, they end up helping you. That's what happened with Daniel. â£
A beautiful boy who was unable to speak, unable to eat for himself, unable to sit unaided, on the surface it may have seemed there were many things that he was unable to do. But I was given the pleasure and the joy of spending time with this boy in his early years, and in that time I got to see all the things he could do. â£

The way his smile would light up the room, the way he would laugh when you tickled him, the way he showed you when he was uncomfortable or vocalised when he had something to share. I remember thinking back then, that no matter what the world may make of him, he would really be someone, because he already was. â£

He taught me that disability is merely a construct, it's a label that society gives when they are too afraid to step inside someone else's world, someone who is different. It's our barrier to overcome, not theirs. It's our job to see the world through their eyes, to step outside the box. â£

I can't really talk about Daniel without mentioning his mother. A woman who has emulated Gods love and mercy through every moment she gave to her son, cosplay kostüme and to her other children too. If you could see their love and bond in colours, they would be wrapped in the most beautiful rainbow you've ever seen. She is every reason why we say in Islam, that paradise lies beneath the feet of your mother. And that is why my heart breaks for her today. â£

Today, 17 years young, Daniel passed away. To God we belong and to Him we will return. â£

His life was a gift and through it he touched so many, including me. God had a plan for him, today his purpose was complete but the lessons he gave us will remain always. â£

Please join me in praying for his eternal rest in gardens beneath which, rivers flow - pray for his mother and his family that they may be comforted at this time. ðŸ™ðŸ¼ Ameen.
